With an impressive win over Jason High in the books at UFC on Fuel 10, not to mention a good deal of hype surrounding his name, it would be easy for welterweight Erick Silva to start looking ahead at the path towards a crack at the championship. However, surprisingly, the 28-year old isn’t interested in going for gold at this point in his career.
“I think it’s still too soon. I’m not very worried about a title-fight right now. To be honest, I’m not all worried about that. The only thing I want to do is to do my work,” said Silva at the post-event press conference, later stating he’d fight twenty more times if necessary. “Definitely, when I go for the title, I want to have it on my waist. But that’s not part of my plans, not at all, right now.”
MMAJunkie was on the scene and able to capture the comments.
Asked to elaborate, Silva explained, “I only focus on my next fight. I’m going to go home now, I’m going to rest, I’m going to have one week, two weeks off, and then I’m going to start working out again. I’ll just wait for the UFC to schedule my next fight, and when they do, I’m going to focus on it.”
Silva improved his record to 15-3 with the 71-second submission of High. Twelve of his wins have featured a tap-out.
