UFC featherweights Hatsu Hioki and Darren Elkins both know what it’s like to come close to contending for a championship only to come up short a few steps shy of the finish line. Now, the two talented 145ers will face off on August 28 at UFC on FS 2 in hopes of getting back on track towards an eventual title-shot rather than suffering a major setback in the division.
ESPN was first to report the bout’s addition to the event.
Hioki entered the UFC on a decent winning streak, promptly picking up victories over George Roop and Bart Palaszewski. However, he has dropped a pair of decisions since the run. Hioki holds an overall record of 26-6-2 including twelve triumphs by way of submission.
The 16-3 Elkins won five straight scraps after deciding to drop down to 145 pounds but suffered a 68 second knockout against Chad Mendes in his last outing. Among his notable instances of success are those over Michihiro Omigawa, Steven Siler, and Diego Brandao.
