WSOF 3 Results: Josh Burkman chokes Jon Fitch out cold

After an eight-year run in the UFC including a title-shot as well wins over stand-outs like Diego Sanchez, Paulo Thiago, Erick Silva, and Thiago Alves, welterweight Jon Fitch (24-5-1)  made his return to the ring under a different organization’s banner earlier tonight when he faced Josh Burkman (25-9) at WSOF 3. The bout between Fitch-Burkman served as the evening’s main event, capping off a card also featuring appearances from Dan Lauzon, Jacob Volkmann, and Lyle Beerbohm.

When the dust settled, the headlining fight lasted less than a minute, seeing “The People’s Warrior” pop Fitch right off the bat before sinking in a Guillotine Choke that put the former Purdue Boilermaker wrestler to sleep. Rather than the referee intervening, Burkman opted to release the hold once he knew Fitch was out and walk away. The finish was only the second time Fitch had been submitted in his career, while Burkman improved his WSOF winning streak to three in a row and will challenge for the title in his next bout.

Glad Burkman stopped. Mazzagatti is a clueless idiot who will hurt someone and continue to ruin guys legacies. Much respect Josh

Fitch’s window has officially closed. After a brilliant collegiate & professional career, it’s officially slipping away and I don’t blame him for being devastated.

Surprised Dana’s twitter comments focused on giving credit to Burkman rather than taking a shot at Fitch…nice to see, even if his next tweet is to tell someone to “go fuck ur self.”

By the way Fitch just tweeted, that he went for the slam instead of defending the choke. Why he couldn’t stay in the ring and say that..I don’t know.

Fitch is kinda like Jack Nicholson – he’s a very good one-note piano player. The difference is Jack Nicholson doesn’t have other people trying to choke him out or punch him in the head.

The age of Fitch is drawing to a close. The age of the machines well rounded fighter begins.
