The rivalry between UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate is well-documented and was a significant factor in the organization’s decision to give “Cupcake” Cat Zingano’s spot as a coach on TUF 18 when the top contender went down with injury before taping began. However, based on some recent comments, it sounds like even UFC President Dana White has been surprised by exactly how nasty things have been on the set.
“Miesha and Ronda hate each other. It’s like literally crazy drama every day,” said White to a group media in town for UFC 161. “It’s Ken and Tito type stuff.”
MMAWeekly was on hand and able to capture the conversation.
Asked to elaborate, White didn’t give any real detail but explained, “I don’t even know if some of that stuff will make TV. It’s bad. Those two do not like each other and their camps do not like each other. And it is pure f*cking mayhem every day.”
Tate and Rousey first crossed paths in Strikeforce where pre-fight trash-talk resulted in a physical exchange during weigh-ins for the bout. Rousey went on to win their tilt in standard fashion, submitting Tate with an Armbar in the opening round, but the animosity remained and has clearly spilled over onto TUF 18 based on their close proximity.
TUF 18 will debut in early September on FOX Sports 1.
