A week ago, UFC featherweight Ricardo Lamas was locked in to a fight against Chan Sung Jung at UFC 162. Today, the 31-year old is instead making plans to celebrate Fourth of July Weekend instead of strategizing on how to take out “The Korean Zombie”.
According to a report on UFC Tonight, Lamas has been officially yanked off the July 6 show after the organization failed to find a suitable replacement for Jung (who was tabbed to fill a vacancy against champion Jose Aldo at UFC 163 after Anthony Pettis suffered an injury). As a sign of good faith, the UFC also paid Lamas his “show” money, meaning the disappointing turn of events wasn’t a complete loss for the talented 145er.
The 13-2 Lamas has won all four of his fights since coming over from WEC including finishes of Cub Swanson and Erik Koch. He also holds past wins over Dave Jansen, Bart Palaszewski, and Hatsu Hioki.
No date/event was mentioned in terms of being targeted for Lamas’ next fight.
