A heavyweight bout appears to be brewing between Stefan Struve and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira after both men were approached with the possibility and expressed interest in seeing it materialize. The nudge getting the ball rolling came on Struve’s side when he asked fans to give him input on who they wanted to see him fight in his next outing and Nogueira’s name came up.
“A ton of you want me and ‘Nog’ to go at it and I have to say I love that fight,” Struve exclaimed on Twitter. “Respect him but would love to scrap with him!”
Nogueira’s openness to action against Struve was later reported on UFC Tonight, though the iconic Brazilian is still in the process of healing up from damage related to a recent submission loss to Fabricio Werdum. It is unknown when he will be fully ready to return to the ring.
The seven-foot Struve hasn’t seen action since having his jaw broken by Mark Hunt in March. He holds an overall record of 25-6 including 23 stoppages.
The 34-8-1 “Minotauro” is one of the most beloved veterans on the UFC roster thanks to his legendary run in PRIDE. Among the numerous notable victims Nogueira has beaten in the past are the likes of Werdum, Josh Barnett, Dan Henderson, Mirko Filipovic, and Randy Couture.
