The brilliant career of Norifumi Yamamoto is winding down but before “Kid” considers retirement he’ll have a chance to exit the Octagon with his head held high. Though not confirmed by officials, Yamamoto appears to be set for a match-up with Ivan Menjivar at UFC 165.
TVA Sports was first to report the scrap’s addition to the September 21 card. The Toronto-based event is scheduled to feature a title-fight between light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and clear-cut contender Alexander Gustafsson in the main event.
The 18-6 Yamamoto has thirteen TKOs to his credit but is currently on a three-fight slide and hasn’t seen action in more than a year. Among the notable wins notched on his record are those over Rani Yahya, Jeff Curran, Caol Uno, and Bibiano Fernandes.
Menjivar also came up short in his last clash, suffering a submission loss to Urijah Faber last February. He holds an overall record of 25-10 with nineteen finishes.
