Jamie Varner-Gleison Tibau tangling at UFC 164

Jamie Varner-Gleison Tibau tangling at UFC 164

UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson will be defending his title at UFC 164, presumably against T.J. Grant, but the headliners won’t be the only 155ers scheduled to scrap on the card. According to an official announcement from the organization, action between Jamie Varner and Gleison Tibau has also been added to the August 31 lineup.

Varner is coming off a narrow outpointing of powerhouse Melvin Guillard, though the physical specimen he’ll face this time around is the polar opposite in terms of style. Of course, with a 21-7-1 record and eighteen finishes including eleven submissions, there’s little question Varner will be up to the task of dealing with Tibau’s BJJ.

The 27-9 Tibau has tapped out twelve of the opponents he’s beaten including Rich Clementi, Rafaello Oliveira, and John Cholish in his most recent rumble. He also holds past wins over Jeremy Stephens, Rafael dos Anjos, and Josh Neer.

Should be a pretty good fight, if Varner keeps it standing I think he wins for sure.

Most likely fan, Tibau is too muscular and seems to gas fairly quickly if he can’t take it to the ground and use his jits
