UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt’s career has gotten a major boost since the “Super Samoan” showed up in the Octagon. Once an afterthought in the division, Hunt was a win away from contending for the UFC championship before falling to Junior dos Santos in May. However, it looks like it could be awhile before the 39-year old kickboxer can capitalize on his newfound popularity, as some medical issues stemming from his scrap with JDS haven’t healed up as quickly as expected.
“Just wanted you guys to know the skin graph didn’t survive and I think I will be back in hospital next week. It’s a bummer,” wrote Hunt on Facebook, alluding to a procedure he had to address an infection in his leg. “I hope I don’t have to go hospital, but we will see. I see a plastic surgeon Tuesday. Didn’t realize how bad this is, man.”
The 9-8 Hunt also broke his toe in the loss to Dos Santos but appears to be fine on that front. No timetable was offered for his possible return to action, as basic health is clearly Hunt’s focus at the moment.
