UFC heavyweight Dave Herman assured the Nevada Athletic Commission he was clean when meeting with the regulatory board last week to receive a license for a bout this Saturday night at UFC 162 after recently seeing a suspension for marijuana use expire. In fact, Herman was so confident in his ability to pass a drug test he offered to take an unscheduled one.
The NAC quickly agreed to the condition, saying he could fight this Saturday night but only if he submitted a clean sample first. Now, with results in, it’s clear Herman’s faith in being drug-free was well-placed, as he is officially good to go against Gabriel Gonzaga on Saturday night.
The 21-5 Herman has lost his last three fights and is in a “must win” position as a result. He has been popped twice for smoking pot, meaning he also needs to pass his post-fight drug test if hoping to maintain his spot on the UFC roster.
