The “who” was already in place; now the “when” and “where” have been unveiled.
According to a recent announcement from UFC President Dana White, bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will put her gold up for grabs against rival Miesha Tate on December 28 at UFC 168. As usual, the annual New Year’s Eve Weekend event will take place in Las Vegas.
The 7-0 Rousey is out to pick up her second successful defense after tapping out Liz Carmouche in February. All of Olympic medaling judoka’s victories have come in the opening round of action by way of an Armbar.
Tate holds an overall record of 13-3 with nine stoppages including six TKOs and three submissions. Among her notable wins are those over Julie Kedzie, Zoila Gurgel, Hitomi Akano, and Marloes Coenen.
Rousey and Tate are currently serving as coaches on TUF 18. The season is scheduled to start on September 4. The bout will mark a rematch of a 2012 tilt in Strikeforce seeing Rousey emerge with the championship thanks to one of her trademark finishes.
