UFC lightweight Ryan Couture will get another chance to score a victory inside the Octagon when he fights at UFC 164, though the opponent he’ll face very well could have ended up as an adversary in Strikeforce had things played out differently for the now-defunct organization. According to an official announcement, Couture is set to collide with fellow Strikeforce veteran Quinn Mulhern at the August 31 event. The bout could possibly serve as the loser’s last in the UFC, as both are coming off of defeats under the promotion’s banner.
Couture came out strong against Ross Pearson in April action but ultimately fell to strikes in the scrap’s second stanza. He is 6-2 in his career with impressive outings against Conor Heun and K.J. Noons.
Mulhern (18-3) is testing the 155-pound pool for the first time after a run at welterweight. Eleven of his wins have come via submission.
UFC 164 is set for Milwaukee with lightweight champ Benson Henderson headlining things alongside top contender T.J. Grant. Other match-ups on the card include Chad Mendes-Clay Guida and Josh Barnett-Frank Mir.
