Fans in Winnipeg didn’t get to see UFC interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao put his belt on the line against Eddie Wineland last month after the bout fell apart due to injury, but the fine folks in Canada will still have a chance to see the scrap unfold live inside the Octagon. According to an official announcement, Barao will battle Wineland on September 21 at UFC 165 in Toronto.
The 30-1 Barao hasn’t lost since his professional debut in 2005 including seven victories as a Zuffa fighter. Among his most noteworthy wins are those over Brad Pickett, Michael McDonald, and Urijah Faber.
Wineland is 20-8-1 with fifteen finishes notched on his record. He was last seen narrowly outpointing Pickett to build off the momentum off a knockout of Scott Jorgensen in his previous pairing.
UFC 165 is scheduled to feature light heavyweight champion Jon Jones putting his gold up for grabs against Alexander Gustafsson in the main event. Other scheduled match-ups include Ivan Menjivar-Norifumi Yamamoto and Myles Jury-Mike Ricci.
