UFC 162 Bonuses: Two Fight of the Night awards handed out

There weren’t any submissions tonight at UFC 162 but there were definitely some fireworks worthy of attention at an event featuring six-strike based stoppages including new middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s win over Anderson Silva. As such, the organization awarded a pair of Fight of the Night bonuses in addition to Knockout of the Night honors.

Featherweights Frankie Edgar and Charles Oliveira scored $50,000 for their entertaining effort, as did 145ers Cub Swanson and Dennis Siver in the PPV’s opening bout. Edgar picked up a hard-fought decision over Oliveira in the evening’s co-headliner, while Swanson secured his fifth consecutive victory by scoring a TKO over Siver in their tilt’s third frame.

Weidman also won an extra $50,000 for his second-round knockout of Silva. The scrap-sealing sequence of strikes came when “The Spider” dropped his hands to taunt Weidman only to get caught and ultimately finished.

Great effort from Swanson. I thought he would win a bit more handily, the way he’s been tearing things up lately, but he had to fight for it. He might have the best killer instinct in the game today. As soon as he gains the upper hand, he finishes.

i’m now officially a cub swanson fan. Dennis isn’t an easy fight for anyone in 145 division and Cub took him out. I really liked how as the fight went on he got more explosive and accurate with his strikes. great fight.
I have to say the Silva/Weidman fight did look a bit suspicious when I first watched it but after rewatching, seems legit to me. But wouldn’t be surprised if Silva has all his family betting against him lol
