For the second time, UFC welterweight Nick Diaz’s flirtation with retirement hasn’t stuck, as the controversial Californian has contacted company head Dana White and requested a return to the Octagon at some point in the near future. White revealed the nugget of news in a conversation with media members after UFC 162, stating Diaz’s desire was partially fueled by a recent split with his girlfriend.
No opponents or date were mentioned for the match-up. In the past Diaz has called for fights with Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva though neither is likely given the current state of the MMA landscape.
The 29-year old Diaz is coming off consecutive decision losses to Carlos Condit and St-Pierre. Prior to the skid he’d scored eleven straight instances of success, compiling an overall record of 26-9 with noteworthy wins over Paul Daley and B.J. Penn.
