All-female fight promotion Invicta FC was back tonight and once again turned heads with a card full of fantastic fights featuring some of the top women in MMA today. Topping the bill at Invicta FC 6, featherweights Marloes Coenen and Cristiane Justino battled for the company’s newly created divisional belt, while other notable match-ups on tap for the event included Jessica Penne-Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc, Sarah D’Alelio-Lauren Taylor, and Ayaka Hamasaki-Claudia Gadelha.
Coenen and “Cyborg” are both former Strikeforce champions who met once under the promotion’s banner in a bout seeing Justino emerge with a TKO win. In addition to being a title-fight, the scrap also served as an interesting stylistic clash. Coenen entered the effort with a 21-5 mark in her career with fifteen submissions, while Justino was 11-1 with nine of her victories coming by way of strike-based stoppage.
When the dust settled, “Cyborg” once again reigned supreme thanks to a fourth-frame finish. Justino landed most of the offense throughout the match-up including a few impressive takedowns and some solid defense. The end came as a result of the Brazilian landing a number of blows to the grounded Coenen.
