UFC featherweight Cub Swanson has done everything in his power to procure a crack at the championship, collecting wins in his last five fights including four finishes. Fresh off a TKO of Dennis Siver at UFC 162, Swanson is hoping he’ll be next in line for current divisional king Jose Aldo. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean his name will be next in line.
Swanson spoke to Knockout Radio about his immediate future, explaining he certainly wants to get a piece of Aldo but he isn’t interested in collecting ring-rust if the UFC has other plans in mind.
“If they are going to give someone else Aldo then that’s way too long for me to wait,” said Swanson in a conversation captured by MMAWeekly. “I’m in prime position right now. I’m doing well. There’s no sense in me waiting, but I do want that fight and if I have to fight one more time then I would like the Ricardo Lamas fight or the Frankie Edgar fight.”
“There’s also Chad Mendes, but he’s got to get through my teammate, Clay Guida, first,” the 20-5 Swanson continued. “So my first choice would be Aldo. I don’t think (Chan Sung Jung) is going to beat him and so then after that it would either be Lamas or Edgar. They’d be my next choices.”
The 29-year old also clarified his stance, stating he wanted to get back in the Octagon one more time in 2013 regardless of who he faces.
