A minor change has been made to the lineup for UFC 164 after lightweight Quinn Mullhern (18-3) withdrew from the event due to an undisclosed injury he suffered while training for a clash with Ryan Couture. As a result of the situation, Ultimate Fighter 15 alumnus Al Iaquinta has agreed to step in and face Couture at the August 31 show.
UFC officials have confirmed Iatuinta’s role in the rumble. UFC 164 is set to unfold in Milwaukee and features Benson Henderson defending his lightweight title against hometown product Anthony Pettis in the main event.
At 5-2-1, Iaquinta holds a record similar to Couture’s. He has yet to make an appearance in the Octagon since falling in the Ultimate Fighter 15 final more than a year ago due to injury. All but one of his wins have come via stoppage.
Couture has compiled a 6-2 mark in his career. He recently had a four-fight winning streak snapped by Ross Pearson, laying waste to a run featuring notable victories over Conor Heun, Joe Duarte, and K.J. Noons.
