If all had gone according to plan, fans would have had a chance to see UFC heavyweights Brendan Schaub-Matt Mitrione mix it up in a week at UFC on FOX 8. Unfortunately, in a sport as physical as MMA, things rarely unfold as anticipated and the bout fell apart when Mitrione went down in training with a minor injury. Though each man could have been scheduled for a different match-up, it appears the UFC was happy with the pairing and has decided to place it on a September show.
According to The Star Phoenix, Mitrione-Schaub has been attached to the lineup for UFC 165 in Toronto. The card is headlined by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his belt against streaking Swede Alexander Gustafsson.
When the cage door closes fans should be in for a treat assuming both men live up to their reputations. Schaub holds an overall record of 9-3 with seven strike-based stoppages, while Mitrione is 6-2 with all but one of his wins coming by way of TKO.
