Fifteen fights into his career and only a single person has figured out how to solve the challenge of beating UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald inside the ring. And, in the case of the Canadian’s lone loss, opponent Carlos Condit only secured a stoppage in the final few ticks of a tilt he would have almost certainly lost on the scorecards had the final frame expired.
Despite the hype, UFC on FOX 8 foe Jake Ellenberger isn’t overly concerned with what he’ll face in the Octagon tonight. The 29-6 Ellenberger has been quite outspoken regarding his opposition to the belief MacDonald is a Top 5 fighter, supporting the same stance once again in an interview with Fuel TV after the weigh-ins.
“Rory’s tough (but) for me to be honest, he’s a Rubik’s Cube and I’m two or three moves away from finishing him,” offered Ellenberger in assessment.
Asked about the smack he’s been spewing over the past few months in MacDonald’s direction, Ellenberger admitted he was simply having a little fun to amp up the entertainment factor even though he genuinely believes he’s a step above “Ares” when it comes to overall ability.
“It’s more doing it for the fans but I enjoy it,” said Ellenberger, adding that he had a special message to deliver if – and when – he emerges with his hand raised in Seattle.
