After losses in four of five fights leading up to tonight’s UFC on FOX 8 lineup there was no question lightweight Melvin Guillard needed a victory to cement his spot on the organization’s roster. A longtime Octagon veteran, “The Young Assassin” came through in a crunch, blasting opponent Mac Danzig in the second stanza of their undercard effort.
The victory marked Guillard’s twentieth career TKO and was named the evening’s Knockout of the Night. As such, Guillard brought home an extra $50,000 for the distinction.
Headliner Demetrious Johnson also scored $50,000 for his finish of John Moraga. The flyweight champion looked sharp throughout the scrap, showing once again why he’s easily the best 125er in the sport en route to an Armbar victory labeled Submission of the Night.
Finally, Ed Herman and Trevor Smith both brought home $50,000 more than expected due to their tilt being awarded Fight of the Night honors. Herman was handed a Split Decision nod after a three-round rumble seeing both men bloodied and battered.
