In an interesting twist, WSOF heavyweight Andrei Arlovski will take a freshly opened spot previously occupied by a man who beat him earlier this year, as “The Pitbull” has been placed into a pairing with Mike Kyle after Anthony Johnson was forced to withdraw due to injury. The bout is scheduled to take place on September 14 at WSOF 5.
MMAFighting was first to report the replacement. The bout has also been changed to a heavyweight affair rather than a 205-pound tilt based on the situation.
No update on Johnson’s health was offered.
Arlovski lost a Unanimous Decision to Johnson in March, seeing a four-fight winning streak snapped as a result. He holds an overall record of 19-10 including fourteen TKOs and past success against the likes of Tim Sylvia, Fabricio Werdum, and Roy Nelson.
The 20-9-1 Kyle is coming off a knockout win over Travis Wiuff under the CFA banner after a run in Strikeforce. Sixteen of his victories have featured a finish with the bulk involving strike-based stoppages.
