UFC Fight Night 26 boasts a star-studded lineup worthy of any PPV including Chael Sonnen, Mauricio Rua, Alistair Overeem, and Urijah Faber. However, the man Faber will be facing is far from a headliner, at least outside of his native Brazil. That being said, what Iuri Alcantara lacks in name value he makes up for in talent.
Alcantara is 28-4 with wins over Michihiro Omigawa and Ricardo Lamas as well as having a ton of finishes to his credit. Though Faber has been very vocal about his desire to have drawn a more marketable match-up based on the upside involved, he isn’t looking past Alcantara and respects his adversary’s abilities as much as he does any opponent at 135 pounds.
“This is gonna be a huge test for me,” admitted the 28-6 Faber in a preview for the fight. “Iuri’s skill-level is, in my opinion, equal to a world champion’s. He’s very well-rounded, he’s experienced, he’s beaten big names in this sport. But I’m not gonna be one of the guys he beats.”
While an admittedly steep hill to climb, Faber ultimately sees Alcantara as little more than an obstacle standing in the way of his end goal.
“I’m hungry. I’m in this sport to be the best,” said Faber firmly. “I’m super-motivated to be the UFC champion and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that happens.
