Bellator 99 Receives New Main Event, Co-Main Event

An injury to former Bellator light heavyweight champion Christian M’Pumbu has forced several changes to the Bellator 99 lineup.

First, the planned featherweight tournament quarterfinal between Patricio Pitbull and Diego Nunes has been moved into the headlining act. The two are competing for $100,000 and a future shot at the belt.

Vladimir Matyushenko, a former UFC competitor, was expected to face M’Pumbu in the main event. Instead, he will meet fellow veteran Houston Alexander at heavyweight.

“It’s an honor to be able to fight for an organization like Bellator,” Alexander said. “I always want to take big fights, and Matyushenko is a guy that’s been around this sport since the beginning, and it will be a huge test. I just want to go out there and smash, do what I do best.”

The card is set for September 13 from California, with the main card airing on Spike TV.

horrible horrible fight, that should be buried on the prelims somewhere. i wish BFC hadnt signed Vlad (respect him, but one of the dullest fighters of all time), and Houston Alexander should stay on the local circuit.

Other than that there are some super looking fights on this card

also just seen Doug Marshall had to pull out of 98 title fight with Schlemenko. Gutted for the guy, he came from no where to win that tourney, beat guys he wasnt supposed to, got a lucky decision, and will possibley never get the title fight now. not a pretty fighter, but a fighter for sure. and he against Schlemenko woulda been awesome. Brett Cooper is replacing him, guy who got knocked out in the first by Marshall
