Though UFC middleweight contender Vitor Belfort might have publicly lobbied for a crack at Chael Sonnen, it looks like “The Phenom” is actually likely to face a different man with Team Quest ties in the form of Dan Henderson. The two met once before in PRIDE with Henderson picking up a decision win.
A UFC Tonight reported confirmed the clash was being targeted for a Brazilian card believed to be taking place on November 9. The weight-class involved is up in the air but light heavyweight seems probable given Belfort’s recent statements about avoiding conflict at 185 pounds before a title-shot is thrown his way. Both Henderson and Belfort have verbally agreed to the tilt.
Henderson is on a two-fight losing streak, suffering Split Decision stumbles against Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans respectively. He is 29-10 in his storied career including past success against Mauricio Rua, Wanderlei Silva, and Fedor Emelianenko.
The heavy-handed Belfort holds an overall record of 23-10 with sixteen strike-based stoppages. Among his biggest finishes are those over Michael Bisping and Rich Franklin.
