At some point in the creation process producers decided drunken fighters would likely make for good television. While they were right to an extent, the combination of testosterone-fueled athletes cooped up without access to the outside world and unlimited booze has also delivered some frightening, sad, and downright embarrassing moments, creating at atmosphere that doesn't necessarily reflect MMA in the most positive light.
The UFC’s creation of the Ultimate Fighter will forever be linked with the organization’s rise from an outcast athletic endeavor to global power, as the show showcased the personalities and professionalism often involved inside the cage. For the first time many fans learned how technical Mixed Martial Arts actually was and got a feel for how approachable fighters actually were. However, that’s not to say every decision relating to TUF has been great since it first showed up. With TUF 18 debuting tomorrow night it’s time to take a look back at five gaffes from the franchise’s run on TV in hopes the decision to mix male/female fighters on the upcoming season doesn’t follow in their footsteps… (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
