Though also a lowlight based on each man testing positive for PEDs after the tilt, Sherk’s success against Hermes Franca was an important moment in his career as his lone title-defense. Unfortunately, his decision to try and cheat cost him the belt. He also dealt with a lengthy suspension and ultimately came up short in his attempt to win the gold back after losing to a highly motivated B.J. Penn.
Though former UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk hadn’t fought in a few years, the seasoned veteran finally called it quits this week after learning he’d need hip replacement surgery stemming from his twelve-year run as a wrestler and professional fighter.
