Benson Henderson Issues Statement Concerning Elbow Injury

Former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson suffered no structural damage to his elbow during his recent loss to Anthony Pettis.

Henderson released a statement Friday night after visiting with Dr. Brian Shafer, an elbow specialist in Phoenix.

“My elbow is going to be an issue,” Henderson said. “Dr. Shafer said I can resume training immediately, but to take it slow and steady for a couple of weeks and do my rehab work.

“Of course I am anxious to get going full speed again but I will be smart and patient about it as well.”

Henderson was defeated via first round armbar vs. Pettis, his second loss to “Showtime.”

After stating his desire to hold the record for most successful title defenses in the UFC, “Smooth” had just one more comment to say:

“I want to thank my hardcore fans for their awesome support, not just in the past week, but throughout my career. I can be better. I will be better,” he stated.

He got caught with a slick submission, happens to everybody at some point, I am looking forward to seeing him in more exciting fights, maybe Henderson vs Thompson.
