Knowledgeable fans no doubt remember the hype around Ryan Ford, a heavy-handed brute terrorizing tomato cans in Canada. Despite the buzz, Healy went into hostile territory and blew the then-undefeated Ford out of the water with an Armbar finish in the third frame of their fight to become MFC welterweight champion. He would defend the title against Ford successfully in a subsequent scrap before moving on to other regional promotions.
Lightweight Pat Healy will take to the Octagon in a couple of weeks when he clashes with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 165 where he’ll attempt to follow up on a fantastic showing against Jim Miller this past April without the subsequent suspension for recreational drug use. If Healy is able to get by the unbeaten Russian, he’ll set himself up for a potential title-shot or at least a crack at top contendership, adding yet another impressive feat to a rock solid run in MMA. Of course, it won’t be the first big win for “Bam Bam”, as he’s taken out more than his share of game adversaries… (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
