Pettis has dropped jaws time and time again with the most recent instance coming when he tapped out Benson Henderson in the opening round of their rumble to become lightweight champion. The win proved the polished pugilist is not just a scintillating striker but a submission threat as well. Though Thomson has faced a ton of tough opponents in his career, he’ll have to take things to the next level to beat Pettis. Then again, considering his knockout of Nate Diaz, it’s definitely difficult to count “The Punk” out.
2013 has been a historic year for the UFC in terms of their partnership with FOX. In addition to producing four events for the chief network, the organization also helped launch FOX Sports 1 and delivered a ton of additional action through FX/Fuel TV. Both parties look ready to end the twelve-month period on a high-note with a steadily growing star-studded lineup for UFC on FOX 9. The December 14 event already features a title-fight, plus two tilts with contendership implications as well as a pair of bouts between seasoned veterans with something to prove.
