Cain Velasquez, Luke Rockhold Given Black Belts At AKA

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold were presented with their black belts in jiu-jitsu recently at American Kickboxing Academy.

“Got my BJJ blackbelt,” Velasquez posted on Twitter, thanking his coaches.

Rockhold posted much the same, saying, “Promotion day at AKA. Finally got my black belt after 15 years of jiu jitsu.”

Velasquez returns to action later this month against Junior dos Santos at UFC 166, while Rockhold is unscheduled at this time after a knee injury knocked him out of a planned contest with Tim Boetsch.

Daniel Cormier, also a member of AKA, was promoted from white to brown belt, as well.

Not sure how much stock I’m putting in a Black Belt if a teammate can go from white to brown in one go.
