Remove the steroids and Alistair Overeem will be powerless without the juice. That’s what Fabricio Werdum believes and judging by Overeem’s last two performances, he might be on to something.
“He lacks a little bit in gas because of his steroids,” said Werdum to MMA Fighting. “He changes a lot if you take his juice off. Everybody saw what happened. Overeem is one fighter with his juice, but he changes completely without the juice. They took his powers.”
Overeem had a UFC world title shot lined up by stopping Brock Lesnar, but a random drug test during training ended those hopes with a nine month suspension. He’s returned with knockout defeats to Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and Travis Browne. He takes on Frank Mir at UFC 167 with both their careers weighing on the outcome.
Werdum has won three since returning to the UFC, last defeating Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. He’s considered one of the top heavyweight contenders.
