Forget “Fight of the Night” – these two turned in what could easily earn “Fight of the Year” honors. Their war was waged for fifteen action-packed minutes and saw each man dropped at some point in the showdown. Melendez came out at the end with a decision nod, but everyone in the arena and tuning it at home were truly winners based on the brutal but beautiful brawl between the two talented 155ers.
Last night’s lineup for UFC 166 produced an event fans will be talking about for months to come. Not only was the action intense in general, but there were a number of highlight reel finishes and a fight for the ages. In fact, things were so spectacular the UFC decided to tack an extra $10,000 on top of their regular rate of $50,000 for performance-based bonuses. (Photos by USA Today Sports Images)
