Before Barao was serving as a dominant interim champion he was a buzz-saw with plenty of buzz based on his impressive winning streak and performances under WEC’s banner. Pickett was one of his first real tests and also came with the added pressure of having his hometown fans’ support. Still, it did little to slow Barao who out-classed the always-tough Pickett en route to an opening round submission win. The brilliant Brazilian went on to find success in his next fight, then earn the gold he’s since defended twice by beating Urijah Faber.

The card features a main event between middleweights Lyoto Machida-Mark Munoz with Melvin Guillard-Ross Pearson colliding in the co-headliner. Both bouts have the potential to produce highly memorable results, following suit with numerous past showdowns unfolding in the area.
