Daniel Straus Returns From Injury, Arrest To Become Bellator Champion

Daniel Straus was hit with an illegal knee and a groin shot, but neither one of those were enough to stop him from becoming the Bellator featherweight champion Saturday night at Bellator 106.

Straus, who suffered a broken hand and was arrested on a drug charge earlier this year, dominated Pat Curran to avenge a 2009 knockout loss to the now-former champion.

“It’s a good feeling,” Straus said. “I worked really hard at ATT and want to thank all my coaches.”

Curran was deducted a point for the illegal knee, but it didn’t matter, as Straus dominated the majority of the 25-minute fight. He improved to 18-1 since the loss to Curran, and has now won six in a row.

“Pat Curran is a tough dude,” Straus said. “I will see him again. I will; I know it.”

The loss was the first for Curran since a 2011 defeat at the hands of Eddie Alvarez.
