NEF returned to Maine where Paul Gorman beat Tateki Matsuda in the Main Event. Tai Kai’s Light Heavyweight Crazy Mike Mucitelli won at Bellator 107 to improve to 6-0. Oh yeah, some guy named Brennan Ward just won the Bellator Middleweight Tournament!
Connecticut’s Brennan Ward just punctuated 2013 with a second round TKO of Mikkel Parlo for the Bellator Middleweight Tournament Championship at Bellator 107. The Tri-Force Middleweight used a crisp jab to drop Parlo early in the second round before unloading a barrage of uppercuts to the ribs of the Dutch striker and ultimately finishing him off with huge bombs that had Parlo covering up on the cage. More than twenty punches in all went unanswered before the ref stopped the beating. The win improves Ward’s record to 9-1 and insures that he will have a shot at the Bellator World Middleweight Title sometime in early 2014.
On the undercard of Bellator 107, New Yorker Mike Mucitelli won for the sixth time against no losses. After losing the first round, Mucitelli displayed his new striking game to take rounds two and three for a unanimous decision win over the hometown fighter Ryan McCurdy. Fighting at Light Heavyweight, Mucitelli remained undefeated.
In Lewiston, ME at NEF XI, Paul Gorman successfully defended his Bantamweight title against Tateki Matsuda with a split decision win. The five rounder was a Fight of the Year back and forth battle that left both fighters cut, bloody, and battered. Gorman improves to 11-9 while Tateki falls to 8-5. Other big winners on the NEF card include Aaron Lacey, Ryan Hodge, Tony Christodouloou, and Vovka Clay.
