After working his way to an impressive, unanimous decision win over Brian Ebersole at UFC 167, Rick Story is hoping to use the victory as a means to take on a top contender next. After all, it wasn’t that long ago when Story was in the title shot conversation, thanks to a six fight winning streak. That run also included a UD win over the UFC’s #1 welterweight contender, Mr. Johny Hendricks.
Story recently appeared on MMA Junkie.com Radio, and here’s some of what the 29 year-old had to say about his short term future.
“I want to fight anyone in the top-10,” Story said. “I just want to get back in the top-10 of the world.”
Fair enough. Although Tyron Woodley isn’t currently ranked in the UFC’s top ten, the former Strikeforce contender also impressed at UFC 167 by taking out Josh Koscheck in the opening round. So, what does the “The Horror” Story think about fighting Woodley?
“I’d fight Woodley,” Story said. “I just care to fight someone in the top-10.”
As a result of Story’s latest win, the powerful fighter is 3-2 in his last 5 bouts, so it remains to be seen if the promotion would book him to fight a top ten contender next. Story also relayed, however, that he could be sideline for a while, due to an injury he incurred in his battle with Ebersole.
“I believe I tore my bicep in the first round with one of the body shots,” Story said. “I have to get my arm checked out by the doctor but then I’ll go ahead and start training and get prepared then to get a fight.”
Hopefully Story will get booked for his next bout sooner than later. Saturday’s scrap with Ebersole was the Brave Legion fighter’s 14th appearance in the Octagon. Crazy. Story’s 9-5 in the UFC to date.
