Stefan Struve Continues On Long Road Back To Octagon

UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve remains hopeful to be competing against inside the Octagon in early 2014.

After being diagnosed with a pair of heart issues, Struve was cleared to resume a full training schedule earlier this month. He is currently working on eight sessions a week after spending several months on a limited routine.

When asked on Twitter recently if 2014 remains the targeted return date, Struve replied “Aiming for that, YES :)”

The 25-year-old had his four-fight win streak snapped this past March against Mark Hunt in Japan. He is now 25-6 in his career, including a 9-4 mark with the UFC.

“Still 3 tests coming up in January and February but if things keep going the way they are going I should be allowed to fight after that!” he added.

I really hope things work out for Struve. I’ve read a bit about his heart condition and he’s got a potentially brutal battle ahead of him.

I don’t think Struve will ever be champ, but he seems like a great kid and I really hope the best for him.
