With Velasquez Sidelined, UFC Wants Werdum To Take Fight

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will likely be sidelined for the first five or six months of 2014, according to UFC president Dana White.

Velasquez, who underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum recently, is expected to face Fabricio Werdum.

Werdum, though, hasn’t fought since submitting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in June, waiting to cash in on his No. 1 contender status. White, appearing on “UFC Tonight” Wednesday, stated a desire to see the Brazilian back in action before Velasquez is allowed to return.

On FOX Sports Live later that night, it was reported that the promotion wishes for Werdum to take on the winner of Travis Browne-Josh Barnett, a heavyweight contest set for this month.

For what it’s worth, Browne appears ready for that, posting on Twitter “let’s coach a TUF show then winner fights Cain!!”

Browne needs to worry about Barnett first. As for the two (Werdum n Browne) coaching against each other on Tuff…..no thanks. Tell you the truth I would have loved to see Comier have one more fight with a top 5 HW before he “RAN” to LHW. A fight with someone like Werdum would have gave him more of a legit claim at JJ Bones belt then taking on a small LHW in R Evans.
I want to see Werdum fight but if I were him I would sit and wait. Let’s not forget the UFC cut him when he had an apparently embarrassing lose to a then up an comer who went on to become the HW champ in JDS.
Werdum if your reading this they fucked you before now bend them over for while. You earned it.
