A Look at the UFC Rankings

The latest update to the UFC’s official rankings featured little movement among the Top-15 in each weight class.

In the overall pound-for-pound rankings, Urijah Faber and Gilbert Melendez both moved past Dominick Cruz, the former UFC bantamweight champion who was injured yet again recently.

Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, Cain Velasquez, Demetrious Johnson and Chris Weidman all remain strong in the Top-5.

In the flyweight division, Dustin Ortiz jumped to No. 13, leapfrogging past Darrell Montague and Darren Uyenoyama.

The bantamweight division saw several movers and shakers, as TJ Dillashaw and Takeya Mizugaki each moved up one spot to fifth and seventh, respectively, while Brad Pickett, Mike Easton, Bryan Caraway and Ivan Menjivar all dropped.

Cruz was also moved to 12th after being stripped of his world title.

Diego Sanchez and Rustam Khabilov flip-flopped at the bottom of the lightweight rankings, while Rick Story moved to No. 13 at welterweight, dropping Josh Koscheck to 14th overall.

Brad Tavares and Yoel Romero, both coming off wins last week, moved into the middleweight Top-15, while Josh Barnett climbed to No. 5 at heavyweight. Antonio Silva and Alistair Overeem each fell a spot.

And finally, in the female bantamweight ranks, Sara McMann – the next contender to Ronda Rousey’s title – shifted into third overall.

Of note, Martin Kampmann was removed from the rankings after citing plans to take time off as he recovers from a concussion.
