Rashad Evans Injured, Out Of UFC 170 Fight With Daniel Cormier

Rashad Evans Injured, Out Of UFC 170 Fight With Daniel Cormier

UFC 170 has dealt with several injuries over the course of the past few weeks, but most of them came at the expense of prelim fighters.

Well, all that changed on Wednesday, as officials announced that former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is injured and will not make his co-main event bout with Daniel Cormier.

The two were part of a media conference call earlier in the day, but no mention of the injury was given. Officials will not try to find a replacement for Evans, who was slated to welcome Cormier to 205 pounds.

Evans posted a picture of himself on Instagram Tuesday and described “clearing hurdles” as his current focus. He mentioned Cormier being that next hurdle.

Cormier, meanwhile, posted on Twitter:

“I’m so sad, but I wanna fight,” he wrote. “I’ve trained so hard. Chael Sonnen, Anthony Johnson, anybody. Maybe a heavyweight. Anyone please!”

Below is the current lineup, which could be adjusted in the coming days:

Gutted, was really looking forward to seeing how both guys perform. Cormier could have been set for a title fight fight with a win, and rashads future at lhw was on the line. Two out standing wrestlers going at it, what wasnt to love?

That’s confusing of why they did a media day if Rashad knew he was injured, unless he got injured afterwards of course

Was also really looking forward to this fight. I hope they put Eye vs Davis on the main card as that should be a pretty sweet fight.

Dana misspelling Cummins’ name was a nice touch.

    Relayed from Dave Farra’s twitter…

Dana couldn’t get a hold of Cummins because he was at work (at a coffee house). Dana got him on the phone and his manager fired him for talking on the phone to DW.

Dana: “Tell your manager to go f**k themselves and go to the gym, you got the fight”

Also, Rashad reportedly needs surgery & won’t be ready ant time soon… So they’re pushing the envelope a bit with this matchup. Huge opportunity for Cummins, obviously, but DC is going to be hell to deal with on top of UFC debut jitters on top of short notice, etc…

He deleted that one and tweeted a corrected one later Richard
