UFC 170: Cormier vs. Cummins Recap

Patrick Cummins

It was personal when light heavyweights Daniel Cormier and Patrick Cummins met in tonight’s UFC 170 co-main event. The bout would see Cormier manage to control his emotions as he annihilated his one-time training partner.

Cormier Destroys Cummins

Daniel Cormier did not fall into the biggest trap fight of his career tonight when he faced former training partner Patrick Cummins. Cummins was the longshot for a reason and was never really in the fight despite going for it against “DC.” Cormier made quick work of Cummins with solid striking and connected multiple times before putting away Cummins.

It was over when:

While an argument could be made that the bout was over when it was signed, the real factor of this fight was Cummins simply not being on the level of Cormier at this stage of his MMA career.

What’s Next?

Cormier wants a title fight at 205 and he is certainly in the top four of that division. If anyone is injured ahead of Jones/Teixeira, he could get his wish. If anyone is injured while defending/winning the title in that fight, Cormier could see the winner of Gustafsson and Manuwa.

I still want cormier to fight rashad first before he goes for jones, I called for that fight when DC said he was first cutting to LHW and I still think it makes the most sense. It’ll give DC an accurate judge of where he is in LHW, and rashad is like Jones light

I’d like to see DC fight someone who is actually in the top 5 before he starts sounding off about getting a title shot at any weight.
