It might be a little biased, but Georges St-Pierre believes Tristar Gym teammate Rory MacDonald should get the winner of Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.
Hendricks and Lawler are set to meet next month to determine the new UFC welterweight champion, a belt vacated by St-Pierre.
MacDonald scored a decision victory over Demian Maia last weekend, improving his overall UFC record to 7-2.
“I do believe Rory deserves the next title shot,” said St-Pierre, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com while promoting Bacardi Canada. “I think he deserves it and I do believe Rory will be champion.”
Both St-Pierre and MacDonald were constantly asked about fighting one another – something neither seemed very interested in. MacDonald has since said he feels a bit of pressure has been lifted with the removal of GSP from the situation.
“I was not interested in fighting Rory, and Rory was not interested in fighting me,” GSP said. “Rory is my friend. He’s like a brother to me, a training partner. I wish him the best of luck.”
