Titan FC confirmed reports of plans to pair Mike Ricci and George Sotiropoulos together for April’s next event on Wednesday.
While no date or location has been confirmed, Titan FC 28 is expected to see the promotion venture away from Kansas City – site of the first event this past Saturday night. Ricci defeated Jorge Gurgel via TKO in the first round main event.
Jeff Aronson, CEO of Titan FC, told FightLine that “early indications were fantastic” in terms of ratings for the CBS Sports Network program, which spanned two hours and showcased five fights.
“(The ratings) well exceeded all our expectations,” he said. “Even the photos of the fights had 150,000 views in 12 hours.
“I am just so thankful to the fans and fighters for making such an amazing experience.”
Five of the seven fights that took place were finishes, and Aronson held true to his promise of paying bonus money to any fight that ended that way.
“I guess the bonus works,” he said.
Ricci (9-4) was a finalist on The Ultimate Fighter before being released by the promotion, while Sotiropoulos (14-6) is looking to snap a four-fight losing streak – all of which came inside the Octagon.
Prior to his string of defeats, Sotiropoulos had won eight in a row, including a 2010 submission over Joe Lauzon.
The only other fights announced to date for the card will see Vinny Magalhaes take on Jason Brilz in another battle of ex-UFC fighters and Dave Herman square off with D.J. Linderman.
