Some feel Alexander Gustafsson is the uncrowned UFC light heavyweight champion.
Others believe he should have been given an immediate rematch with Jon Jones after taking the champion to a five-round decision.
Nevertheless, “The Mauler” is focusing only on his opponent at hand – Jimi Manuwa. The two meet Saturday from London at UFC Fight Night.
“I don’t want to look past Jimi; he’s a really dangerous guy,” said Gustafsson, during a recent interview on UFC Tonight. “A lot of people don’t know him. I know that. I’m not looking past him.”
Gustafsson, who lost for just the second time when he fell to Jones, said he was “back in training in just over two weeks” after his 25-minute battle last year.
“My body was okay,” he said. “My motivation was tough, though. It was a defeat and I hate to lose. It was the worst thing ever, but I got over it.”
With a future title shot hanging in the balance, Gustafsson prepared completely for everything Manuwa will bring, he said.
“I’ve done my homework. I’m ready to go,” Gustafsson stated. “I’ve had the best came ever. I’m better than I was when I fought Jon Jones.
“Whatever he does, I’ll have an answer for it.”
