Recently, Nate Diaz made it known – via Twitter – that he wanted to be released from his current UFC contract.
UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com on Friday that he has yet to talk with Diaz concerning the matter, but doesn’t plan to cut him from the promotion.
“He hasn’t called me. Is that how we do these things? You tweet?” White said. “The answer would be no. He just signed a new contract that he was happy with a month ago.”
White has had his issues with Nate Diaz, and his brother, Nick, in the past, along with recent contract negotiations with fellow Cesar Gracie fighter Gilbert Melendez.
Melendez will be a coach on The Ultimate Fighter this year, and has already stated plans to bring both Diaz brothers in to help him. Does White have a problem with that?
“I can’t wait,” he said. “The crazy thing about this is I actually like the Diaz brothers. Are they nutty as hell? Yes they are. But I like both of them and they’re fun to watch fight.”
Nate Diaz, a former TUF winner, last fought late in 2013 when he defeated Gray Maynard. Nick Diaz has not competed since announcing his retirement after a loss to Georges St-Pierre.
