Johny Hendricks can become the UFC welterweight champion this weekend when he faces Robbie Lawler at UFC 171.
That doesn’t mean “Bigg Rigg” hasn’t contemplated a possible move up to 185 pounds in the future.
“It’s something that I’ve thought about, but I don’t think it’s now,” said Hendricks, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “I think it’s like two, three years from now. The older you get, the harder it is to cut. I’d love to fight at 185. Not having to cut down to 170? Are you kidding me?”
Hendricks, who works with famed nutritionist Mike Dolce, admitted that he walks around at “215, 220″ pounds between fights.
“That’s an average cut for a 185-pounder,” he said. “That’s probably what the 185 (pounders) are walking around at.”
Hendricks (15-2) sports a 10-2 mark in the UFC, including a decision loss last year to Georges St-Pierre.
