Alexander Yakovlev will make his Octagon debut in May at UFC Fight Night: Dos Santos vs. Miocic, according to Yakovlev’s coach.
Yakovlev will square off with Demian Maia, replacing Mike Pierce who suffered a hand injury. The card is set for May 31 from Sao Paulo, Brazil and features a main event between Junior dos Santos and Stipe Miocic.
Prior to signing with the UFC, Yakovlev (21-4-1) fought in Russia, including a November decision victory over Paul Daley. He is 8-1-1 in his last 10 bouts overall.
Maia (18-6) will be looking to snap a two-fight losing skid, including a February loss to Rory MacDonald. He had won three straight prior to his recent slide.
