Alexander Gustafsson remains unsure of when he’ll return to the Octagon, but he knows he will be fighting for the UFC light heavyweight championship.
That’s because Gustafsson will meet the winner of Jon Jones-Glover Teixeira for the title later this month. Gustafsson has been declared the No. 1 contender and will get the winner.
“I am hoping that Jon will win that fight,” said Gustafsson, who was in Abu Dhabi for UFC Fight Night 39 Friday. “I want to take that title from him.”
Gustafsson earned his 16th career victory earlier this year when he bested Jimi Manuwa in England. He is 16-2 in his career, with both losses coming inside the Octagon.
With no date set for his next bout, “The Mauler” is just focusing on improving in training.
“I am trying to develop as a fighter,” he said. “I am pushing my limits every day and will be a lot better Alex in my next fight. I promise that.”
