UFC president Dana White confirmed during Thursday’s UFC on FOX 11 pre-fight press conference that the promotion is headed to Mexico – on one condition.
UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is currently recovering from surgery. If everything goes as planned, Velasquez will face the winner of Fabricio Werdum-Travis Browne in the country later this year.
“As long as Cain’s recovery is on course, the fight will be in Mexico,” White said.
Velasquez (13-1) was born in the U.S. after his parents fled Mexico and entered the country illegally. He has won four straight, including 2013 finishes of Junior dos Santos and Antonio Silva.
Werdum and Browne collide Saturday night in the main event on FOX from Orlando.
